Why John Anthony?

Our company is named after my grandfather John Anthony Steffens.

My Grandfather was a child of the Great Depression. Like so many of the Greatest Generation he endured and overcame many hardships. He volunteered to join the US Army at the age of 17 and went on to serve honorably in both WWII and Korea.

Upon his discharge he met the love of his life, my grandmother Ruth Ann. He worked in advertising at various newspapers before working to establish a new company and concept called Multi-Ad.

Multi-Ad changed the way print advertising worked. A large supplier such as Proctor and Gamble, Tyson, Ford, Chevrolet, Studebaker, Coca Cola, Pepsi and numerous others would give Multi Ad their print advertisements for the year. Multi Ad would produce a 3 ring binder with all of their ads. The binder would include tabs to easily distinguish between vendors and monthly marketing plans. Multi Ad would then send the binder free of charge to retailers all over the country. Retailers would then submit ads to their local papers.

These are the ads that ran in every newspaper for 40+ years.

When I named our company after him I was thinking of his story. The hard work, the relationships with his customers, who he called partners and the opportunity to expand upon his legacy.

I have spent my entire life in this industry.

My start in printing began at a young age, working at B&D Binder and Index, a company led by my father. I spent my high school afternoons and summers putting product in boxes, cutting paper, helping with shipping and generally anything else that was needed.

After high school I enrolled at the University of Texas Arlington and earned a B.B.A. in Marketing. During this time I began making sales calls, most of them cold calls, and supporting the exceptional sales and customer service staff at B&D.

2008-2012 was a hard time for a lot industries but especially hard on the printing industry. B&D weathered these storms and continued to excel as the looseleaf industries leading manufacturer of custom printed index tabs, and trusted source of custom printed binders.
